Ballot Do's and Don'ts, Candidate Forum on Friday

Title
Hi.  I  got this invaluable list of do's and don'ts, just in time,
as I'd considered a #1 ranking for more than one candidate.
I've added our full slate of LSB candidates at the bottom.
Vote NOW!   -Ed

PS.  Also invaluable is this listing of the members of The
Committee to Strengthen KPFK.  Please consider those
who've chosen the slate.

Email me if you want my own ballot ranking.

Committee Members

Don't do this:

Ranking all your choices as #1 is a VERY BAD CHOICE.

You're giving 1/14 th of a vote to each of your candidates.   It makes your vote about as weak as it could be.

The software will distribute the vote but it is a losing proposition in an STV election.  This was confirmed by Fred Blair, our STV expert.   Why it was put on the ballot, as a suggestion,  ignorance or bad intent, is a question we may get answered after the election.

Do this instead:

Encourage voters to select Summer, Margie and Lamont as their first three rankings, so that they get re-elected,   then rank the remaining 11 candidates on our slate as they decide or you suggest.

If you want to make up a filled out ballot that shows you're recommendation on how to vote, that's a great idea to attach to an email.  You can also just list your preferences in the body of the email (easiest for the voter).   The CTS KPFK only agreed to favor Summer, Margie and Lamont, so they'd get re-elected.  Therefore so we shouldn't indicate any further preference on the website.

Please, in your emails provide links to:

The website: www.CandidateSlate.org
Who to the list of who to vote for: http://www.candidateslate.org/Documents/KPFK-Listners-Short-List.doc
The fantastically amusing and informative youTube video: http://www.youtube.com/user/CandidateSlate
You can also add a link to your statement or you candidate spot.

If you send me a link to your own web presence (website, facebook, twitter, youTube, mySpace) I'll add links on your statement.  If you have additional material to post to your statement, send it to me and I'll add it on.  Lance and Leonard have already.

Drive traffic to the website.  Email all your contacts and encourage them to forward to their lists, encouraging KPFK listeners to find their ballots and vote for our slate.  We're fishing for votes and in this case we can go spear fishing or cast nets, anyway that works.  Email at least two or three times, spread out over September.

Also, print out flyers and attend public events.  To remind you again, you need 174 votes to get on the board.  At some point someone will get 174 and the next guy only got 173.  Be on the upside, get on the board.  If you have an questions send me an email.

If someone has more details about upcoming events, please email me back so I can post the info on our website.

There's a section under events.  It also has links to the on-air panel audio, which you might want to link to.   Good work on the panels, do well in the in-person forums.

Thanks,
    Ken Aaron

Subject: Overcoming Kooky Ballot?

Jan, Ken, and Ian

Is it possible to post alternative ballot instructions on the candidateslate website with copy something something like:

It is only necessary for you to mark your KPFK Listener Ballot for Local Station Board members in the first column under "1"

In addition, we could post a filled out ballot (see attachment) at the site or in any print or on-line ads.

This is coverage that we don't hear on other TV & radio stations, because other stations are owned or underwritten by major corporations.
