Helen Mirren, Tim Robbins, James Franco, et al support the Get Lit Players in an extrordinary afternoon of

I value the Get Lit Players immensely, and have had the pleasure of their company since 2009.  They've altered the arts agenda in over 50 secondary schools, throughout So. California, are now teaching their method in a number of schools, and perhaps
most importantly, elevated the lives of hundreds of young people with poems silently sitting within to status and effect on their contemporaries.  I cannot think of anything more important to support or more enjoyable to relish, when they perform.  It's been heartwarming to see others join me in passionate advocacy, particularly Tim Robbins, who's given them the Actors Gang theater
for open mic poetry events, monthly, and attending all of them when he's in town, as well as weekly Saturday daytimes classes, evaluations and training sessions.

The energetic genius behind this transformation is Diane Luby Lane, who non-stop teaches, coaches, manages, drives and is den mother to the kids.  Moreover, she's the fundraiser keeping this going and growing: A new, internet arts newspaper - Get Lit LA- managed and edited by high-schoolers throughout the area, and a county-wide poetry contest scheduled for next Summer. And, its
all for free, I mean ALL FOR FREE.  Please look at who's performing and supporting this amazing, precious, generous organization
and consider coming.  It's a lot for many, including me, but I can't think o f  anything more worth while.  If a better world comes out of today's mess, the Get Lit Players are a beacon towards it and will be a critical element within it.

Sincerely,
Ed Pearl

About Get Lit – Words Ignite

Founded in 2005 in Los Angeles, Get Lit is a leading non-profit presenter of literary performance, education, and teen poetry programs. Get Lit uses the memorization and recitation of classic poetry as a launch pad for teen-created spoken word responses, fusing the two forms of expression into compelling performances, conducted by teens in school, after school, and through the organization’s own select group of Get Lit Players. These poet ambassadors from throughout Los Angeles perform both classic and spoken word poetry, inspiring fellow teens to read, write, participate in the arts, and be leaders in their community. Get Lit has reached over 15,000 at-risk teens in more than 45 high schools, turning students into motivated scholars inspired to stay in school and thrive. Learn more at http://getlit.org.
