KPFK/Pacifica Board Elections

Hi.  Many people on this list support Pacifica radio's mission and it's airing
of critical opinion simply not available elsewhere. We also bewail the regular
faltering of these noble standards. Nonetheless, in the real world, absolutely
no alternative exists, and its potential remains. Ergo, we continue to work on it.

I've joined with others to form (first P.I.R.C.R.) and now The Committee to
Strengthen KPFK to elect decent members of our Local Station Board, the
election of which is again upon us.  Below is the slate we've endorsed
after interviewing many candidates.  But first, a letter I sent to someone
on this list who asked my opinion of another group and their candidates.
It's self-explanatory, necessary and regretable.

Apologies to you who aren't at all involved in the network.  Consider it a
cautionary tale, or just erase it.   Those who are into it are encouraged to
pass this along.  Oh, please save this if you don't vote right away.  I spend
lots of time resending my ballot rec's at the last minute, even miss some
deadlines.  Actually, vote now so you won't forget or waste time emailng me.

Thanks for your consideration.

Subject: Re: The 'grassrootsKPFK' slate

Ruth.  Voting for this slate would be a terrible mistake.  At its core, this
group supported Eva Groegia's disasterous reign at K, with the lawsuits,
refusal to open the financial books, harrassment of employees, programs
loaded with sectarian pov's, including anti-semitism. And which you and I
defeated again and again in LSB elections.  They turned, early on to Tea
Party type disruption of meetings, including violence, so as to prevent
decisions they didn't agree with, and then for governance at all.  Like what
the congessional Republicans do. Some below, like Lawrence Reyes, are
overtly violent.  Others, like Ron S, are good people, but very naive and will
follow the leaders.
.
All of them believe that Pacifica should be loading up on political rhetoric
on and off the air.  This is not the Pacifica mission of peace and many
points of view, nor non-profit governance, per California state law, which
overtly excludes the non-democratic behavior they've exhibited for the past
two or more years.

Please wait for my emailing, probably tomorrow morning.  -Ed

Ad DRAFT #2,

KPFK LISTENERS -- DON'T  BE FOOLED AGAIN!
Listener/sponsors of KPFK have a ballot with only a list of candidate names for the Local Station Board election.  The Committee To Strengthen KPFK is made up of listeners like you. Individuals without personal agendas or ambitions, who want to return KPFK to accountable, responsible oversight while informing our audience and serving the community. So WE WANT YOU TO KNOW WHO YOU ARE VOTING FOR!!!
The slate calling itself grassrootsKPFK will not tell you that a vote for them is a vote for a return to the failed era of former general manager Eva Georgia, when, during the Bush/Cheney years, KPFK should have been hugely successful – but instead the station lost two thirds of its listeners, paid off harassment lawsuits, resisted financial transparency and was nearly bankrupted. Since those claiming to represent the grassroots lost their majorities on the Local Station Board and the Pacifica National Board, they have obstructed sound governance at every turn.
We want you to know about our diverse slate of authentic progressive activists with non-profit experience at www.CandidateSlate.org where you can examine our candidates' biographies, experience and their vision to rebuild KPFK with competent management and financial transparency using improved programming, Internet outreach and innovative fundraising.

And OUR SLATE IS ENDORSED BY YOUR FAVORITE PROGRAMMERS:

Maria Armoudian – Don Bustany – John Cromshow – Lila Garrett – Sonali Kolhatkar – Ian Masters – Terrence McNally – Shawn Casey O'Brien – Barbara Osborn – Henry Slucki – Roy "of Hollywood" Tuckman – Jon Wiener – Suzi Weissman – Roy Ulrich

YOU have until September 30 to vote for all 14 candidates listed alphabetically below, in whatever order you prefer.  EVERY VOTE COUNTS so DO VOTE FOR:

Fred Blair – Steven Brooks – Lance Charles – John De Simio – Leonard Isenberg – Nancy Kazar – Chipashe Luchembe – Dennis McCoy – Margie Murray – Summer Reese – Jerry Van – Richard Vega – Richard Wittmann – Lamont Yeakey
